The Auxiliary Communications Service (ACS) is a team of volunteer communication professionals dedicated to assisting the City of Seattle with public safety and emergency communications in times of disaster and/or community need.
ACS is organized and operates under the authority of the City of Seattle Division of Emergency Management and in times of disaster, operations will be in accord with the provisions of the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) as provided for by the FCC and FEMA. Seattle ACS is affiliated with the King County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES). The Medical Services Communication Team (MST) is a special auxiliary communications service team, affiliated with the Western Washington section of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service and Seattle ACS. In this capacity, we support the emergency communications needs of the hospitals and major health care organizations in our jurisdiction. Our Operations Plan has been tested and refined over the past five years in the Puget Sound area, and now stands as an an outstanding example of volunteer service to our communities. The Medical Services Team has a goal to provide trained, competent radio operators to every emergency department and other health care facility in Western Washington, able to respond to any communication request from the facility or public service agency, when disaster strikes. The team is supported by technical staff and logistics organization. The team is engaged in a program to provide permanent voice and packet capability in hospitals and clinics around Puget Sound, and in other counties, enabling them to communicate with each other, medical suppliers, Emergency Operations Centers and other public service agencies when necessary. For additional Information about ACS, please contact Mark Sheppard (N7LYE) ACS Manager at 206-684-5027 or E-mail: Mark Sheppard. |
